Richard R. Rainforth, CLU®, ChFC®, LUTCF

Rich Rainforth has been a New York Life Agent since 2000, and is associated with New York Life's Des Moines General Office in West Des Moines.

Rich has been a qualifying member of Million Dollar Round Table since 2007 (MDRT is recognized throughout the industry as the standard of excellence in life insurance sales performance). Rich has consistently earned New York Life Council status each full year since he started. Council status is based upon production in life insurance, annuity, long-term care insurance and investment sales.

Rich has earned the designations of Certified Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) awarded by the American College. These programs typically require an average of 400 hours of study and a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education every 2 years. Rich is also certified in the Macro Asset Perspective, commonly referred to as the MAP. He is the only certified agent in Des Moines.

Rich is active in his community. His involvement with Amanda the Panda (a grief counseling and support group) was extended through a New York Life Foundation Community Impact Grant. These funds were used to renovate the Children's Garden - a courtyard area of their facility.

Rich was raised in SW Iowa, graduated from Iowa State University and has lived in Central Iowa since 1996. He has two daughters, Alexa and Mattea, who reside in the Chicago metro area.

Randall “Scott” Schmailzl CFP®, CLU®

Scott Schmailzl began his background in finance at Central College in Pella, Iowa where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management with a focus area in Finance in 2003.

Scott immediately entered the Insurance and Financial industry and began to build his practice as an agent for New York Life Insurance Company and Eagle Strategies, LLC, as a Financial Adviser.

Scott quickly earned several prestigious designations within the Financial Services industry including that of a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®), and finally Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), which is perhaps the most advanced designation the industry offers. Each of these programs require approximately 400 hours of study and a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education every 2 years.

Scott also belongs to the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisers as he has always believed that being as current as possible on the issues that surround the Financial Planning industry is the key to effectively serving the needs of his clients.

Scott was raised in SW Iowa and now resides in West Des Moines, Iowa with his wife Abby where they spend most of their free time with family, friends, and their yellow Lab Herbie.

Joshua R. Ervasti

Josh joined New York Life in 2010 after practicing as an independent agent specializing in working with retirees for ten years.

Since joining New York Life, Josh has qualified for New York Life’s Council recognition program every year that he has been eligible- Council is an annual company recognition program based on agent production from July 1 - June 30. In addition, since 2017 Josh has qualified as a member of the MDRT, which recognizes the top 5% of agents worldwide.  MDRT membership is recognized internationally as the standard of excellence in the life insurance and financial services business.

Josh also serves as the Volunteers for Good Coordinator for the Des Moines General Office of New York Life, through which the New York Life Foundation awards charitable grants based on volunteer hours served in the local community. Since 2010, Josh has personally facilitated raising over $125,000 for Children’s Cancer Connection through New York Life Foundation grants.

In addition to his professional work, Josh serves as the tournament director for Maddy Cunningham’s Classic Volleyball Tournament, which has raised over $206,000 for Children’s Cancer Connection since 2007.

Josh is an active of Lutheran Church of Hope, where he is a leader of the Connecting Faith & Work Ministry, serves on the hospitality ministry and serves with the special events team.

Josh was raised in Eden Prairie, Minnesota and holds a Finance degree from Drake University. He currently lives in West Des Moines with his wife Chrissy and their two sons, James and John.

Larry J. Hanson, CLU®, ChFC®

Larry is an adviser with over 40 years of industry experience. He has served in a number of leadership positions in the industry, including the Presidency of the Des Moines Life Underwriters Association. He has also served on New York Life’s Agent Advisory Council and is a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. Over his career he has been actively involved in the sale of life and health insurance, employee benefits, and investments through New York Life Securities, LLC.

Though raised on a farm in Minnesota, Larry has been a resident of Des Moines for 44 years, and he and his wife, Joyce, have raised two daughters here who have given them five grandchildren to enjoy. He is also a Navy veteran and a 26 year retiree of the US Naval Reserve. His abiding philosophy through the years has been that each person’s financial needs are special, and that they deserve the same care and attention as he would devote to his own family.

When not at work, Larry enjoys golf, traveling, music, and reading. He and his wife are very active in a number of volunteer organizations, as well as their church and town home association.

Jaynie Sweeney | Office Manager

Jaynie Sweeney is originally from Wisconsin, attended Oshkosh University and transferred to Milwaukee Area Technical College to finish a Degree in Applied Sciences, Surgical Technology. She currently lives in Urbandale with her husband Colin and three boys, Jack, Julian and Jonah.

Jaynie spends her free time attending the boys’ sports and cheering on Wisconsin sport teams.

Chrissy Ervasti | Marketing Coordinator

Chrissy Ervasti lives in West Des Moines with her husband Josh and their two boys, James and John. Chrissy has been a stay-at-home-mom since 2011 when her first son was born. Prior to staying home, she worked in the mortgage industry, as well as being a youth gymnastics coach and judge. Chrissy has remained active as a gymnastics judge through the years and has recently started judging on the collegiate level. Now that her youngest is in school, she is excited to partner with R2 Financial Strategies with a focus on marketing.

Chrissy is also an active member of Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, serving on the worship ministry, hospitality team and special events team.
